Worldcoin announced it will launch a proprietary Layer-2 on Ethereum. Why now?

Coinbase has unveiled Base, its own Ethereum layer-2 network. The company sees Base as a key component of its “secret master plan”. The testnet of Base was started on Thursday. In the future the network is supposed to be a part of “Superchain”.
