Q1 2025 has been one of the strongest quarters for the Sui blockchain, despite falling crypto prices and a generally negative market sentiment. Over this period, the project experienced significant growth across all major metrics: user adoption, DeFi TVL, stablecoin supply, and ecosystem partnerships.

The number of users on Sui surged dramatically. In January, the network had around 43 million total accounts. Today, that number has exceeded 177 million—a remarkable 300% increase in just a few months.

Daily active accounts also tripled, rising from roughly 500,000 to 1.5 million. Previously, spikes in activity on Sui were short-lived, but the current trend appears more stable and sustainable. For comparison, BNB Chain has around 1 million daily active addresses, even though BNB’s market cap is significantly larger than SUI’s.

Sui’s DeFi ecosystem has grown rapidly, with its TVL reaching near all-time highs at $2.5 billion. At the same time, the network is becoming a key player in BTCFi. Several major BTCFi projects—including Babylon, Lombard Finance, and Stacks—are already live on Sui, signaling confidence in the chain’s infrastructure and future potential.

Sui has also seen one of the fastest increases in stablecoin supply among all blockchains. Since January, the supply has grown 3.5 times. DEX trading volume is also nearing all-time highs, which shows that real users and traders are actively utilizing the network.

A large part of this momentum has been driven by new projects launching on Sui. One of the most important was Walrus, a storage-focused network that enables advanced programmable data use cases through its integration with Sui. Walrus also distributed the largest airdrop on the Sui network so far, attracting a wave of new users.

When it comes to categories, SocialFi has been one of the most successful on Sui. The largest dApp on the network in this segment, RCRD, a video platform where creators can earn up to 100% of ad revenue and users engage with content through video responses, generates over 1 million daily active addresses. The second-largest app, Fan TV, another AI-integrated social platform, boasts over 155,000 daily active addresses.

The team behind Sui has been consistently focused on bringing in new developers. Judging by the steady flow of new integrations and partnerships announced weekly, these efforts are paying off. Developer interest in building on Sui appears to be growing steadily. On top of that, the chain continues to invest in gaming, with over 15 Web3 games expected to launch on Sui in 2025.

All of this growth paints a promising picture for Sui. While it was once dubbed a “Solana killer” somewhat prematurely, the current metrics show that Sui might actually be living up to that label. With such a strong start in the first quarter of 2025, it will be interesting to see whether the network can maintain this momentum through the rest of the year.
